On Saturday I hosted the fall session of Tasting Grace, and it was loads of fun. Five ladies and I spent time in Proverbs and in the kitchen sharing life and Velveeta® cheese. Three of the ladies had attended previous Tasting Grace sessions, while two of them were new to the session. It was a beautiful mix of ages, stages in life, and cooking expertise.

We began the session with a short devotional from the book of Proverbs. God has led me to offer wisdom from Proverbs in each of the Tasting Grace session. We looked into Proverbs 4:23 (NKJV) and considered the issue of guarding our hearts. The verse admonishes us to:

Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.

The heart is where do all of our thinking, feeling and choosing, therefore we are wise to guard it carefully. We must guard what we have in our hearts (faith and the Holy Spirit), what comes into our hearts, and what goes out of our hearts.

After our devotion time, we moved into the kitchen where the ladies made homemade chicken noodle soup, cornbread, and cheesy apple cobbler. The ladies worked together to create the dishes, and we laughed and shared while we cooked. They were more than a tad skeptical about the cheesy part of the apple cobbler, I must say.

Once the food was prepared, we sat down to taste their creations. The chicken noodle soup and cornbread garnered lots of ‘yums’.  It was a rainy day, making soup the perfect choice for the meal. When it was time to taste the cheesy apple cobbler, the ladies were eager, but hesitant. Each took a small portion from the dish, spooned a tiny bite into their mouths, and I waited. I have never prepared this dish for anyone who did not like it. It is always a huge hit. One by one, their eyes lit up. In less than a pair of minutes, each was reaching for a second helping. Success!!!

I loved hearing the ladies sharing their lives and hearts, as well as speaking into the lives of the other ladies in the group. The ladies assured me that they felt capable of re-creating this meal in their own kitchens. What a blessing this time was for me. I’m certain I received the greater blessing because these precious women shared their morning with me.

The next Tasting Grace sessions will be in January 2016.
