I have had a busy week or so and have not had time to do much with the blog. My mother was in the hospital and then my sister’s husband had endoscopic brain surgery to remove a cyst that, but for the grace of our sweet Lord Jesus, should have taken him from us. I spent a couple of nights at the hospital in Atlanta with my sister and now am back home in the mountains. Praise be to our Lord Jesus, my brother-in-law came through the surgery fine and will be coming home on Sunday. God is soooooo good.

This week The Point will feature the writing of a friend of mine, Janice Smallwood. Janice shared with me recently a poem that she wrote shortly after finding out that she was expecting a baby. Janice’s youngest child at that point was college age, so needless to say sweet Caroline was more than a surprise. But what a sweet surprise she is! She is adorable and darlin’ and precious and her mommy and daddy adore her. If I can get Janice to send me an electronic picture of Caroline, I’ll try my hand at posting it.

As I read the poem, I could certainly identify with Janice’s thoughts. How often do we live our lives as if we have the world at our fingertips, life by the horns and no need of God’s help? All too often, I fear. Sometimes God has to throw us a bit of a curve ball and remind us that He should be the focus of our lives and that He is the One directing the symphony of our lives.

So, my guess is that you will be able to identify with the words that God gave Janice and that you will be blessed.

Do We Believe?

Yep, life is good—got it under control,
No one else plays much of a role,
I’ve worked hard—got life by the horns,
Gee, I’m good—sure glad I was born!

Most of the time I get my way,
Just moving along enjoying every day.
I love my life—I call the shots,
That’s why I’ve got all the things that I’ve got.

I’m hard-working and honest, of that I am proud,
Did you hear me? If not, I can say it real loud!
Look at me—I’ve got it made,
After all, I deserve it—my dues I have paid.

I go to church and I love the Lord,
He’s my personal Savior—I’ve been re-born.
I pray everyday and try to do what’s right,
After all, I want to be good in everyone’s sight.

Yep, life is easy until the going gets rough,
And then all of a sudden we don’t feel so tough.
We’re born of woman few days and full of trouble,
Sometimes life leaves us in a big pile of rubble.

When we or a loved one are diagnosed with cancer,
Do we still believe God’s Word has the answer?
When our plans are changed and take a different route,
Do we still believe God’s Word speak the truth?

When a divorce takes place and the family is no more,
Do we still believe God has something in store?
When a loved one dies and a void is there,
Do we still believe in the power of prayer?

When bad things have happened that we haven’t understood,
Do we still believe all things work together for our good?
When things go awry and we’re in His service,
Do we still believe we’re the called according to His purpose?

Life is not about me and me alone,
God is running things from high on His throne.
What happens in life may not always suit me,
But that doesn’t matter, His Will will be.

Forgive me Lord, when I leave You out,
Forgive me when things happen that make me doubt.
Every good and perfect gift comes from above,
There’s no one above You and Your great love.

Yep, life is good when God’s in control,
Trust Him in all things—He owns your soul.
When our plans fall through and we feel deceived,
His ways are not ours—just trust and believe.
