The space between my ears is a dangerous place sometimes.

With that warning placed before you, I’ll tell you why I say that. My meditation Psalm for this week is Psalm 148. I read it for the first time this morning (not for the first time EVER, but for the first time this week) and a few questions came to my mind that I thought would be worthy of a discussion here in blogland.

Carefully read the Psalm below and then I’ll pose the questions. Let me say on the front end: I TOTALLY BELIEVE THAT THE BIBLE IS TRUE AND CONTAINS NO ERROR!! If it says it, I believe it.

Praise the LORD.
Praise the LORD from the heavens, praise him in the heights above.
Praise him, all his angels, praise him, all his heavenly hosts.
Praise him, sun and moon, praise him, all you shining stars.
Praise him, you highest heavens and you waters above the skies.
Let them praise the name of the LORD, for he commanded and they were created.
He set them in place for ever and ever; he gave a decree that will never pass away.
Praise the LORD from the earth, you great sea creatures and all ocean depths, lightning and hail, snow and clouds, stormy winds that do his bidding, you mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars, wild animals and all cattle, small creatures and flying birds, kings of the earth and all nations, you princes and all rulers on earth, young men and maidens, old men and children.
Let them praise the name of the LORD, for his name alone is exalted; his splendor is above the earth and the heavens.
He has raised up for his people a horn, the praise of all his saints, of Israel, the people close to his heart.
Praise the LORD.

Ok, I totally get how we human types praise the Lord. I even understand how the angels praise Him. My question is how do you think the sun and moon praise Him? Simply by shining and going up and down? What about the cattle and the great sea creatures? What about my worthless, lazy, spoiled rotten cat? The Bible says that all creation praises Him. How in tarnation does my cat praise Him? Through her purring, or perhaps, her shedding of hair? What about the fruit trees and all the cedars?

Next question. Do all those things and creatures have the option of NOT praising Him? You and I have that option AND we exercise that option way too frequently, I fear. But what about trees and clouds and cattle and cats? What might it look like for them to NOT worship Him?

I warned you that the space between my ears is a dangerous place!! Let’s hear from you!!
