Welcome to our Monday series entitled HeBrews: A Better Blend.

HeBrews: A Better Blend

We are working our way through the book of Hebrews in 2012, learning all about BETTER things, with Jesus being the centering point of our study. Today I want to focus on one verse in chapter 5; a verse that hit me like a ton of bricks. Take look at it.

Hebrews 5: 11: “We have much to say about this, but it is hard to explain because you are slow to learn.”

When I was young and in school, I was a fast learner and always did well in school. Even now, with middle age blanketing me, I still enjoy learning, especially when it comes to the Bible.

When the writer of Hebrews says, ‘we have much to say about this‘, this means the topic of Melchizedek. Granted ol’ Mel is a bit of an enigma, but if you have ears to hear, the Spirit will teach you about God’s Word. However, the audience to whom the author was writing was apparently not listening. They were slow to learn.

What would cause someone to be slow to learn?

Fatigue

Illness

Mental or emotional issues

Distraction with other things

Spiritual blindness/deafness

Pride

As I read Hebrews 5: 11, I was prompted to ask the Lord two questions:

Am I slow to learn anything You are desiring to teach me?

If yes, what is causing that slowness to learn?

I know that there have been times in my life when I have been slow to learn things God wanted to teach me. It has happened in ministry and in life. For several years, God has been trying to teach me to trust Him in regard to ministry. He has the perfect plan for my ministry and it is not the plan He has for any other speaker or author. It is His plan for Leah. It may not look like I dreamed, but it will be His best for me. I fought against humbling myself to that for several years, but finally, this year, I have had a huge breakthrough in this area and I can honestly say I am content with where He has me.  Praise God!

I am still seeking God’s input on this issue of being a slow learner. My prayer is that I would not be slow to learn the wisdom God seeks to teach me.

MEDITATION  MOMENT: How about you? Have you ever been slow to learn a lesson God wanted to teach you? Are you willing to open your heart up to the wisdom and teaching of God? Share with us today your thoughts on this.
