Hello, there. I’m glad you are back today for everyday jesus: seeing him in the daily-ness of life. #everydayjesus In case you are new here, let me tell you a bit about this series. Each Monday we gather here, and I share how I have seen Jesus in some aspect of the daily-ness of my life. Life can be pretty daily, can’t it? I’d love to hear how you are seeing Him in your daily life. Please leave me a comment or email me at [email protected].

I suppose I am a slow learner. It seems that Jesus has to teach, or re-teach me the same lesson on more than one occasion. Usually He has to do this when I am going through times of trial or difficulty. Such is the case of late. The past few months have been hard. God, however, has been so faithful. Each time I begin to feel upset or sad over the things that have happened, the Lord prompts me to remember a verse of Scripture that I memorized years ago. It is Hebrews 12:2:

Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

In fact, what He prompts me to remember and chew on is a simple phrase out of that verse. “Fix your eyes on Jesus.” He did it again this week. “Yes, Leah, your heart is hurting right now. Fix your eyes on Jesus. Gaze only at Him and not at the hurt.”

It’s a paradigm shift, friends. When I allow Jesus to be the focus of my eyes and heart, I see everything else differently. It is true what the old song says: ‘Turn your eyes upon Jesus. Look full in his wonderful face. And the things of this world will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace.’

I want to take a moment to encourage you to memorize Scripture. Today, most of us have at least a handful of Bibles within easy reach. It may not always be so. There may come a day, in the not too distant future, when the only Scripture we will have is what we tucked away in our heart through memorization. Even if you only memorize one verse each month that will be one verse you have in your arsenal to use in times of trial and trouble. You are never too old or too young to memorize Scripture.

I’m working on 1 Thessalonians right now. What are you memorizing?
